About the Position:

The Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs (INL) is part of the Department of State's (DOS) multi-faceted response to transnational crime. Dedicated to strengthening criminal justice systems, impeding the movement of illegal narcotics, capacity building, minimizing corruption, and working to counter many types of transnational crime, INL's Office of Western Hemisphere Programs (INL/WHP) plays a key role in leading the development and synchronization of U.S. foreign assistance in theregion. INL/WHP's support is tailored to bolster the capacity of partner countries through multilateral, regional, and country-specific programs.

Dexis' Performance Measurement, Management, and Analysis Support contract with INL/WHP entails developing M&E policies and procedures; creating defensible performance measures; supporting, managing, and conducting data collection efforts across the hemisphere; and developing an M&E data management, analysis, and reporting system and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).

The Copy Editor and Reporting Specialist shall support Dexis' INL/WHP project team and harness data to inform strategic programming, illuminate trends and insights, and assist with analysis and reporting needs. This task-oriented position will be responsible for ensuring all reports produced under this project are easy to understand, free of errors, and have adequate and appropriate data visualizations.

Responsibilities:

This position will review work products to ensure it is well written and logically structured with correct grammar and spelling, ensure text is in line with INL/WHP writing guidance, check facts and raise queries with the author, look out for potential legal or public image issues and discuss them with the appropriate M&E Specialist and/or Contracting Officer's Representative (COR), as well as ensure illustrations and captions are correct. In addition to copy editing responsibilities, this position will support the M&E Specialists and Data Management Specialists with proof reading, light data analysis, quality control across reporting platforms and visualizations, survey drafting, infographics development, video production and editing, graphic design for analytical products, and other tasks as assigned.

This individual may be called on to help with other duties as assigned. This is a part-time (defined as at least 20-hour work week) position. This position is based in Washington, DC.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Ability to obtain and maintain a MRPT certification.
  • Seven (7) years' experience with copy editing.
  • Experience with government reporting.
  • Ability to gather, analyze, write, and create original descriptive copy as assigned.
  • Proven ability to translate technical information into clear, readable, copy for the layman.
  • Ability to support internal/external communication, concisely summarize information.
  • Strong verbal and written skills.
  • Ability to work closely with team, and produce high quality, low-error, professional informational materials.
  • Knowledge of proper grammar, style, tone and consistency.
  • Detail oriented and committed to excellence.
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to support multiple tasks simultaneously in a fast paced, highly energetic atmosphere.
  • Knowledge of data visualization software such as PowerBi or Tableau.
  • Based in the D. C. metro area and able to work in the INL/WHP office space.
  • FSI Level 4/4 English or equivalent.
  • Bachelor's Degree.
  • Proficiency and willingness to work with all Microsoft Office products, including Outlook and Teams for consistent communication with the INL/WHP team.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience writing new articles, creating website content, social media support.
  • Experience developing short reporting materials such as one-pagers in platforms such as Canva, Adobe, or MS Suite.
  • Experience in or interest in learning to use video editing platforms such as Camtasia.
  • Eagerness to learn and grow in the role, particularly through demonstrated ambition to learn new skillsets and apply newly acquired project information to the role as described.
  • Experience with Microsoft's PowerBi.
  • Experience in ghostwriting.
  • Experience supporting the U.S. Department of State, Department of Justice, USAID or other similar government partners.
  • Experience supporting Non-governmental Organizations.
  • Spanish, French, or Dutch language skills.
