Job Description


Softtek Government Solutions is looking for a Sr. Media & Communications Consultant in support of a high op-tempo, high visibility, and high-impact office within the Department of Health and Human Services. This consultant needs to have content creation experience on behalf of an executive agency. The Administration for Strategic Preparedness and Response (ASPR) is a public health preparedness and emergency response organization in the Office of the Secretary at the United States Department of Health and Human Services. ASPR was created under the Pandemic and All Hazards Preparedness Act in the wake of Hurricane Katrina to lead the nation in preventing, preparing for, and responding to the adverse health effects of public health emergencies and disasters. The Immediate Office (IO) is the executive leadership program office within ASPR.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with programs across the organization and the ASPR Communications team to develop both written and graphical web content in support of program needs for the ASPR website
  • Ensure that digital products use plain language, are professionally appropriate, of high visual quality, customer-friendly, and in concert with ASPR mission and programs
  • Subject areas for content development may include issues in public health and healthcare emergency preparedness, mitigation, response and recovery; medical countermeasures development and procurement; health care readiness and response; medical and public health supply chain management; medical countermeasure stockpiling and deployment; promoting service and volunteering during disasters and emergencies; biosafety and biosecurity; issues surrounding federal contracting in grants, workforce development, and other issues related to ASPR's critical mission areas
  • Support the ASPR Communications team in identifying and adding appropriate metadata in support of search engine optimization
  • Collaborate with programs across the organization and the ASPR Communications team to develop timely, accurate, relevant, and engaging content for ASPR's social media accounts (Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, Instagram, Flickr, YouTube)
  • Develop engaging written and graphical content in support of program needs as detailed in the topics addressed in possible content topics
  • Assist with transition from the PHE website to the ASPR website by supporting the ASPR web development staff and ASPR program staff to update and transition content from PHE.gov to the new ASPR website
  • Support the development, updating and implementation of the ASPR Website Content Lifecycle Management Plan and establish an editorial schedule to work with ASPR programs to evaluate, update, and facilitate archiving of web content deemed redundant, outdated, or trivial


Qualifications


Required Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in life sciences or communications

Required Experience:

  • 6-8 years of experience in strategic communications and media relations
  • Possess strong web content writing and editing skills (AP style preferred)
  • Possess attention to detail in writing, editing, and correct us of grammar
  • Relevant, hands-on SharePoint content management experience (SharePoint 2016 or higher preferred)
  • Relevant, hands-on experience with Adobe Photoshop and HTML 5 required
  • Possess knowledge and experience writing materials geared towards public health, healthcare, health-related topics, or emergency management.

Required Clearance:

  • Public Trust Eligible

Desired Qualifications:

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Familiarity with a content management strategy.
  • Familiarity with implementation of WCAG 2.0 and Section 508 requirements.
  • Ability to learn about and implement simple accessibility concepts on the job.
  • Experience with CSS, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe DC, and Adobe Dreamweaver preferred.
