Project Cost Engineer


The Project Cost Controls Engineer ensures successful execution of all asset (Sale of Gas) and third party (Sale of Equipment) projects. Actively engaged in helping to achieve competitiveness, successful project execution, productive internal/external interfaces and risk management. This is a great opportunity to become part of a Project Controls Team at Air Products.

The Project Cost Controls Engineer will provide hands on project cost control services to one or more projects, as part of a portfolio ranging from highly standardized / small scale to sophisticated and unique projects. You will also provide guidance and deliver project cost control plans to suit the project execution strategy and needs. They shall produce accurate and timely reporting input and analysis to the project team using the project applicable procedures and process workflows.

Principal accountabilities

  • Use Air Products cost control IT systems and functional team work processes to provide reliable and consistent cost controls and reporting to ensure that we can meet the project, and business requirements.

  • Collaborate with the Product Line and Project Execution team to develop and deliver competitive inputs to project estimates and budgets, including financing and hedging support, aligned to the execution scope and strategy, ensuring the growth of Air Products businesses whilst consistently delivering on project commitments.

  • Project Structure including Intercompany Contracts for engineering, procurement, manufacturing, construction and commissioning to ensure credible cost control and reporting throughout the project execution phase.

  • Help maintain and improve the capabilities of the regional team to ensure that we can support the business needs across the broad portfolio of offerings.

  • Provide close collaboration and support across the other regional and global teams to ensure effective resource sharing, lessons learned, standard methodologies and the development of appropriate work processes and procedures across the global execution teams.

  • During Execution, produce weekly / monthly reports in line with the project reporting calendar, providing details on progress, actuals, forecast and explanation of variances.

  • Motivated to support an industry-leading regional project cost controls team capable of managing internal/external customer projects including EPCs, within both the office and construction site environments.

  • Create and maintain accurate progress & earned value measurement systems to provide credible controls throughout project execution.

  • Support project organizational change process throughout the life cycle of the projects.

Minimum requirements and qualifications

Education: bachelor's degree(preferred) in Engineering, Accounting or financial field

Experience: Minimum - 5 years' project experience. Sound knowledge, validated skills and competencies in application of project cost controls principles, methodologies, and tools, supporting all phases of project execution, particularly around cost controls, progress measurement/reporting and earned value, within a large project-oriented Organization. Must have a track record of delivering accurate cost reporting and guidance to senior management. Experience within an Oil & Gas, Chemical processing or related business and equivalent projects a further benefit.

Tools: SAP and Ecosys experience preferred.Experience using risk management software desirable.

Global Project Cost Controls Experience: Proven skills and experience of working on global projects, including performing foreign currency analysis, assessing currency risk exposures, advising Treasury of currency requirements and changes, supporting projects driven by multiple engineering offices, and understanding intercompany project ramifications. Understanding of a variety of project types, structures and contract terms. Experience within an Oil & Gas, Chemical processing or related business and equivalent projects a further benefit

Travel:Potential to travel internationally to other regional engineering offices as well as domestically to support project / organizational needs.

Location:Must be willing to work from different job locations. Depending on project phase, individual will need to work in one of Air Product's execution offices, within third party EPC's office, and from construction job sites.

Culturally astute: Experience and ability to work with different cultures associated with multi-region project execution, and to therefore achieve success with a multi-cultural team.

Strengths: Commercial and technical skill, detailed working understanding of project planning tools and systems. Tried skills in planning coupled with a working understanding of project management and cost control.
