Amplify is seeking in-person, part-time long term substitute tutors to provide small-group reading and math tutoring for students in Baltimore, Maryland, through the remainder of the school year (approximately 10 weeks).

Amplify Tutoring is currently looking to grow our Baltimore, Maryland tutor base with in-person tutors who are committed to ensuring students have the foundational skills they need to be successful.

works in close partnership with schools across the country to offer small-group reading and math tutoring. Make a difference working with Baltimore City students in Kindergarten through Fifth Grade by conducting tutoring sessions throughout the school year to build early literacy and math skills.

Time commitment: Candidates must be able to work one of the following shifts in Baltimore, Maryland. These sessions would begin immediately and be in effect through approximately June 7th.

All shifts are approximately 8:00am-2:30pm and include an unpaid 30 minutes for lunch:

Monday-Wednesday-Friday

Tuesday-Wednesday-Thursday

Monday-Tuesday-Wednesday-Thursday-Friday

Location: This part-time position is located in Baltimore, Maryland. Candidates must be able to provide reliable transportation to their tutoring assignments within Baltimore City Public Schools. Mileage is only reimbursed when traveling between two schools on the same day.

Equipment: Tutors must be able to supply their own equipment including a laptop, webcam, and microphone that can be taken to their tutoring assignment and/or be used during professional development activities and meetings. Chromebooks cannot be used for this role.

Compensation: Tutors will be employed and paid via a 3rd party agency. The pay range for this role is $18 per hour.

Documentation: If selected, fingerprinting and background checks will be required. Tutors are unable to begin working with students prior to clearance. There is no cost to the tutor for these background checks.

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Available for the assigned shift.

  • Minimum High School diploma or equivalent.

  • Fluent English speaker.

  • Demonstrates effective time-management skills: reliable, diligent, proactive, flexible, punctual for all commitments, and able to navigate in a fast-paced environment.

  • Comfortable and skilled with technology (Web-based browsers, Google Meet, Google Docs, Google Sheets, Zoom) and regularly updates knowledge base to incorporate new tools and troubleshoot issues.

  • Enjoys working with elementary-aged students and demonstrates patience, flexibility, rapport-building and problem-solving skills with young learners.

  • Strives for clear and effective oral and written communication with students, coaches, program managers, fellow tutors and other team members.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

The successful and effective candidate will be a punctual, consistent, enthusiastic, results-driven, and self-starting individual who enjoys working with young children and developing learning skills through game-like activities. The individual must provide outstanding support to students and be a strong communicator with all stakeholders including tutor coaches, program managers and other team members. They will combine a solid capacity for instruction with strong relationship-building and problem-solving skills.

In this role, you will:

  • Provide tutoring to small groups of K-5 grade students.

  • Monitor progress of students' skill development regularly using a provided assessment to determine if tutoring instruction is working or needs adjustments.

  • Implement feedback from program manager and tutor coach, and self-advocate for needs related to this position in a professional manner.

  • Attend and actively participate in synchronous and asynchronous virtual training and onboarding sessions. Tutors may also attend paid professional development workshops offered throughout the year.

  • Read and review email and internal instant messaging communication daily from the tutor leadership team to keep informed of program changes and updates.

  • Contribute to project-level data reporting for internal and external stakeholders by maintaining an up-to-date lesson log for each session delivered, tracking daily attendance, and answering periodic questionnaires.

  • Adhere to and implement Amplify and district operational procedures, such as singing into schools and requesting substitute coverage.

  • Interact and collaborate as needed with school staff in a professional manner.

  • If not actively tutoring during the assigned shift, substitute tutors will complete alternate work during their assigned hours (ex. Lesson preparation, complete additional training, monitor virtual tutoring sessions, administrative tasks, etc.)
