Responsibilities

  • Answers multi-line telephones, takes messages and schedules new patient appointments.
  • Schedules appointments and testing as requested and instructs the patient.
  • Answers questions regarding patient appointments and testing.
  • Maintains and updates current demographic and insurance information.
  • Type's letters, memos or other correspondence as requested.
  • Greets patients and public in a prompt, pleasant and helpful manner.
  • Verifies necessary information such as insurance and authorizations and records it appropriately.
  • Documents information regarding patient appointments and testing in appointment notes, order notes and clinic notes.
  • Operates the fax machine, printers and copy machine.
  • Notify outside facilities with appropriate patient information and documentation.
  • Change toner on the copier, call for service or maintenance of equipment.
  • Communicate verbally and by GEMMS messaging regarding patient appointments, testing and care with clinical staff.
  • Maintains order status in GEMMS.
  • Maintains GEMMS messages in a timely manner.
  • Obtains authorization for appointments and testing.
  • Collect co-pay and other payments from patients and log appropriately.
  • Complete payment batch out daily and forward to appropriate staff.
  • Float as needed.
  • Follow check-out policy and procedure.
  • Attend staff meetings.

Qualifications

Job Requirements:

  • High school graduation or GED
  • Graduation from a business school/college and/or business courses helpful.
  • Word processing and computer experience

Preferred Requirements:

  • Prefer one year experience in a medical office or hospital setting.
