POSITION SUMMARY:

The Product Manager is responsible for product management, marketing and commercialization of MSD products assuring the achievement of short and long term revenue and profit goals. This position is also responsible for the evaluation of industry/customer trends, defining customer needs, the development of detailed product requirements for defining future products and their commercial launch into the marketplace.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Develop a wide and in-depth knowledge of customer requirements, the competitive environment; and develop strategies and tactics to achieve a sustainable competitive advantage in the marketplace.
* Monitor the competitive environment for products and product lines
o Perform competitive product analysis
o Develop tactics for addressing direct and/or indirect product competition
o Accountable for the commercial success of assigned product line responsibilities
* Develop, execute, and monitor product line plans
o Develop marketing collateral and training materials to support product launches
o Develop and execute marketing campaigns for assay product lines and for specific applications in the targeted market
o Take corrective action as problems and opportunities emerge
* Identity, develop and launch new product offerings
* Cross Functional Collaboration
o Work with Global Sales Management to identify, develop and execute specific tactical marketing and training programs
o Work with Sales, Scientific Support, Customer Service and Finance to develop and manage processes to improve marketing effectiveness and customer loyalty
Specific duties may vary depending upon departmental requirements

EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS:

* Master's Degree in a scientific or business related discipline required
o PhD strongly preferred
* Minimum 5 years of relevant work experience in developing and commercializing products in Life Science Research or Clinical markets
o Relevant experience is inclusive of but not limited to experience in the field of protein measurement and assay development
* Experience with ISO/cGMP/CLIA or similar regulatory standards

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

* Strong scientific fundamentals and analytical background.
o Logical problem solving and demonstrated ability to organize and move project tasks forward in an orderly and structured fashion
* Demonstrate excellence in teamwork, commitment, planning and organization.
* Demonstrate a thorough understanding of the principles of immunoassays, their development, and their applicability in different research fields.
* Proven track record of success in positioning, managing, and marketing Life Science Research or Clinical systems (assays, reagents, instruments and software) through their life cycle to multiple customer segments.
* Excellent oral, written communication and interpersonal skills.
o Effectively communicate issues/problems and results that impact timelines, accuracy and reliability of market research.
o Effectively communicate performance goals and expectations
* Proficiency in MS Office Suite.
o Experience with standard data analysis tools (Excel, GraphPad Prism) and the quantitative background to advance this knowledge on the job is expected.
* A wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected including the ability to multi-task and work productively in a demanding research environment with changing priorities.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

This position requires the ability to communicate and exchange information, utilize equipment necessary to perform the job, and move about the office.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

This position is performed in a standard office environment.
