Job Description
What You'll Do

The Component Quality and Technology group, within the Supply Chain Organization is looking for a Component Engineer with extensive experience and deep understanding in high speed connector and cable technology.

Vendor / Component front:

  • Work collaboratively with vendors to enable the development of new process technologies and next-generation architectures and designs in Cisco products. Ensure innovative design practices, methodologies and processes are in place at suppliers to sustain long term reliability.
  • Ensure designs are accurately validated and characterized for efficient performance and high-quality production to support delivery of functional silicon per system / application requirements.
  • Drive/guide vendors failure analysis to identify true component failure root-cause and corrective actions. Identify detailed versus random failures and use that information to predict field failure risk. Identify contributing factors to failure, including application stress, environmental stress, and component quality issues. Drive updates to vendor and Cisco practices and processes based on what is learned from component failure analysis

System Application front:

  • Work with the Business Unit engineering teams to establish requirements to support Cisco's product roadmap; Participate with BUs in system design reviews including mechanical architecture, performance specifications and interfaces.
  • Partner with Sourcing Commodity Managers to support engineering's product roadmap and development of complete solutions in alignment with the commodity strategy. You will promote teamwork in a dynamic environment coordinating efforts to solve design problems related to component or supplier excursions, while highlighting key program risk to management and clearly explaining path to resolution. You need to maintain strong working relationships with multiple collaborators and employ excellent communication skills to work multi-functionally with hardware engineering, supply chain and commodity suppliers.
  • When quality excursions arise during new product development or sustaining, you will manage quality reviews and lead the team to Root Cause, Corrective and Preventative Actions. You will also need to deal with emergent technical and business challenges, communicating regularly with project teams and management in a professional manner.
Who You'll Work With

You'll be part of the Technology and Quality (T&Q) Organization within the SCO organization. T&Q is a key hub of technical innovation in Cisco. Members of the organization focus on evaluating and developing new technologies to enable sustained product differentiation. You will be a part of a diverse team that seamlessly blends different levels of expertise in several areas of semiconductor and systems design combining traditional knowledge with groundbreaking data analytics techniques to tackle increasingly sophisticated problems. You will regularly engage with our Business Units as your partners and customers, Suppliers of the commodity space you are managing and extended Supply Chain functions including Global Supply Management, Product Operations and Global Manufacturing Organization.

Who You Are

You are a candidate with a strong background in electromechanical product design, with a passion for continuous improvement and product quality. A successful candidate will be highly motivated, engaged, collaborative and passionate about delivering sophisticated high speed interconnect solutions for use across Cisco products.

Minimum Requirements
  • BSME/BSEE or equivalent with 8+ years working experience.
  • Experience leading multi-functional technical teams.
  • Preferred knowledge in designs for manufacturability, fulfilment, and Design Margin analysis / Robustness/Data Analysis/DMAIC.
  • Shown success in delivering results in a fast-paced environment with rapid changing priorities and challenges.
  • Knowledge of end-to-end manufacturing processes from materials selection through automated assembly processes and knowledge of manufacturing process control methodologies.
  • Experienced with design and fabrication of parts applying plastic injection molding, sheet metal forming, die casting, machining, additive manufacturing, and PCB fabrication techniques.
  • Good program management skills and communication skills to be able to be resourceful and able to take a lead in getting the right resources to tackle problems within the multi-functional teams including the factory, and CM partners.
  • Willing to travel (internationally and domestically) to visit commodity vendors and Cisco business units (during safe conditions).
Preferred Requirements
  • Technical leadership in product design including tolerance analysis, validation testing methodologies, and qualification of electromechanical products to requirements documents and industry standards.
  • Experience with interconnect design or selection.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills.
