Purpose:

As a Principal Designer, you will be responsible to have a full understanding of the project's scope, overall schedule, deliverables, milestones, manhour budgets, industry standards, applicable codes, and procedures.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop man hour estimates.
  • Participate in Interactive Planning Meetings to help develop schedules to establish major milestones.
  • Develop a staffing plan to satisfy budget and schedule.
  • Determine line count and estimated isometric quantities based on P&ID's.
  • Be knowledgeable of client procedures, project procedures, and specifications.
  • Establish design areas within the unit/areas of responsibility.
  • Identify and request information in the form of a 'Needs List' to maintain schedule.
  • Monitor and utilize the Master P&ID MOC (Management of Change) log to identify scope change.
  • Utilize a 3D model (AVEVA E3D/Navisworks) review software to monitor design quality and progress.
  • Review and approve deliverables prior to issue.
  • Coordinate the design effort with other engineering and design disciplines.
  • Ensure deliverable verification procedures are followed.
  • Participate in all design reviews for the project.
  • Piping drawing checking and verification experience in the office and in the field is a plus.
  • Previous AVEVA 3D experience developing Piping Models, Pipe Supports, Equipment Models, Isometric and Orthographic Drawing extraction is a plus.
  • Develop general arrangements of plant facilities, structures and equipment considering safe maintenance and construction while interfacing with all engineering and design disciplines.
  • Field design experience with the capability to perform field walk downs using P&ID's, locating tie points dimensionally, and routing pipe through existing facilities. Locate and identify pipe support types. Bring that back to the office for inputting the field data into an AVEVA E3D model.
  • Projects may utilize Laser Scanning. Experience using Scans within AVEVA E3D is a plus.
  • Experience with executing projects within existing facilities with many obstructions and other design constraints.
  • Leading and mentoring project team members from multiple office locations including Global Integrated Delivery (GID) centers.

What you will bring

Technical/Industry Experience and Qualifications Requirements:

  • Minimum of 8+ years of relevant lead piping designer and layout design experience for power, chemical, and industrial facilities. Has a strong background in discipline work and a competent understanding of regulations, codes, manufacturing standards, and industry standard practices.
  • Skilled in estimating project costs and writing proposal content
  • MS Office skills (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) required
  • 2 years 3D model design software experience required using AVEVA E3D
  • Experience with the application of Microstation V8i & AutoCAD

Education - Qualifications, Accreditation, Training:

Required:

  • 2 or 3 year technical diploma with piping design specific training or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience

Preferred:

  • Trained in leadership and project execution.
