Job Description

Job Responsibilities

Successful candidate will have ability to manage all aspects of transportation including shipping and receiving, along with, but not limited to, hiring superior drivers, scheduling deliveries and providing unmatched customer service.

  • Support inside sales to help provide on time deliveries to customers.
  • Secure backhauls for trucks and provide billing for third party freight.
  • Process payments to outsourced freight carriers.
  • Secure permits, escorts and quotes for moving oversize loads.
  • Follow all state and federal DOT accident procedures in addition to corporate requirements and procedures for DOT regulated equipment.
  • Maintain all Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) regulations for compliance with DOT in all areas related to trucking operations.
  • Lead quarterly safety and operational meetings with drivers.
  • Review Electronic Log Devices (ELD) daily to ensure all Federal and State laws are being followed.
  • Review drivers speed and braking reports and coach or discipline drivers as needed regarding driving practices.
  • Hire and retain professional truck drivers to carry out our company objectives.
  • Maximize the use of transportation resources and equipment to better serve customers and company objectives.
  • Maintain complete and accurate records of deliveries, licensing of trucks and processing of payroll.
  • Keep abreast of current (FMCSA) regulations for compliance with DOT regulations for all areas of trucking.
  • Secure third-party carriers as needed for outbound shipments.
  • Prepare bills of lading for all material shipped by rail and truck.
  • Review rail demurrage accounts and dispute as needed.
  • Communicate to in-plant maintenance, third-party maintenance and loading crews any issues concerning trailers.
  • Prepare monthly reports for fuel usage, miles operated and fuel cost.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma required; Associate or Bachelor's degree preferred
  • 1-3 years of related work experience
  • Proficient in mathematics
  • Possess excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Demonstrate necessary computer skills to operate the Koppers proprietary logistics management system, Lumbertrack
  • Willingness to work extended hours, typically in response to storms in our customers' territories.
