This position will work a hybrid schedule which includes a combination of working both onsite on Campus and remote. Candidate will need flexibility to be able to work nights and weekends as needed.

DESCRIPTION

As part of the UC San Diego Health Sciences Communications Team, the Multimedia Specialist and Photographer is the principal photographer for the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Health Sciences as well as health sciences schools, institutes, and centers. The Multimedia Specialist and Photographer provides significant support for health sciences brand and positioning efforts, creating multimedia content for various platforms and working with health sciences communicators, leadership, and other stakeholders to create photographs for marketing and communications products and to document significant health sciences events and achievements.

The role also develops and maintains a photo library and digital asset management system for use by health sciences communicators and serves as photographer and photo editor for the health sciences "Discoveries" magazine.

Electronic & Visual Communications - 80%

* Creates multimedia content for various platforms, including, but not limited to email, web, social media, and print, with excellent judgement, instincts, and knowledge of industry trends and best practices. * Leads all aspects of photo and video b-roll production: 1) Pre-Production: Partnering with Health Sciences communicators, you will use your creative and technical expertise to evaluate projects, develop concepts, conduct pre-interviews, and coordinate production. 2) Production: You will have proficiency with lighting, audio, camera equipment, and b-roll, as well as an awareness of the University style necessary to uphold the university's brand. 3) Post-Production: Editing, color correction, and graphics treatment and effects. You will partner with Health Sciences communicators to ensure final products meet project goals and creative direction.* Actively investigates and suggests new ways to improve multimedia engagement on all platforms, including social media channels, emails, print publications and websites.* Serves as a key photographer for UC San Diego Health Sciences Discoveries magazine.

Equipment & Asset Management - 20%

* Purchases and maintains photo and video equipment. * Oversees the development and ongoing maintenance of digital asset archival and access. * Business and maintains the health sciences' online image gallery.* Manages photo/video release process.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Seven (7) years of relevant experience or a Bachelor's degree in a related area plus three (3) years of relevant experience of a combination of related education and experience.

  • A current portfolio demonstrating depth and breadth of photo and video capabilities.

  • Demonstrated experience with planning and organizing photo and video projects from beginning to end.

  • Proficiency with all studio tools, lighting, technical software, and systems.

  • Familiarity with all aspects of digital quality and output. File size, light and color balancing.

  • Proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite, especially Photoshop, and Premiere Pro.

  • Experience with digital asset management tools and principles.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Experience within healthcare or a higher education setting.

  • Project management skills.

  • Solid analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Graphic design skills

SPECIAL CONDITIONS
  • Occasional evenings and weekends may be required.

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $74,300 - $134,500 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $35.58 - $64.42

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
