JOB TITLE:

Grants Manager- EPSCoR/IDEA Office

JOB PURPOSE:

Research & Economic Development seeks four individuals to serve as College Grants Managers for College of Engineering & Physical Science (CEPS), College of Agriculture, Life Sciences & Natural Resources (CALSNR), the College of Health Sciences, and the Haub School. The university has experienced increased success in external funding and we aspire to continue this trend as we address the many research questions and challenges across the state, region, and nation. REDD seeks an individual who has an understanding of the grant proposal submission and awarding process, and who will support the basic science and research efforts within the Colleges. At the college level, this individual will provide expert guidance and quality control to research faculty and staff regarding all facets of the grants processes. Initiate and oversee implementation of grant proposal development and special projects. Research and interpret relevant regulations, guidelines, and standards, and oversee the processing of grants and/or awards. Provide technical leadership and functional guidance and training to lower-level grant coordinators as appropriate.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The College Grants Managers for CEPS, CALSNR, the College of Health Sciences, and the Haub School will have an understanding of the grant proposal submission and awarding process and will support the basic science and research efforts within the Colleges. The responsibilities of this position include:

  • Learn the research interests within the Colleges and contribute to identification of funding opportunities at various federal agencies, state agencies, organizations, and private foundations, and funding opportunities that will facilitate growth in interdisciplinary research
  • Collaborate with the College units to increase submission of external award applications and external funding success
  • Support College researchers/teams across the continuum of funding opportunity announcement identification through pre-award, notice of award, post-award, and research dissemination
  • Setup file sharing systems, create checklists and timelines to guide proposal progress and activities, schedule project team meetings, provide templates for proposal components, and assist in collecting proposal documents to facilitate grant proposal development for research project teams
  • Analyze and evaluate grant budgets for correct calculation of expenditure categories such as salaries, percent of effort, salary adjustment increases, fringe benefits, indirect costs, materials, and equipment
  • Serve as a resource for questions regarding solicitations and provide professional guidance to research staff
  • Communicate with Pre-Award Services and upload documents into RoamWyo, as well as uploading documents into federal funding systems (Research.gov, NSPIRES, etc.)
  • Provide a non-technical review of proposals for formatting, grammar, responsiveness to the grant solicitations, and overall flow
  • Connect PIs to groups on campus who can assist with Broader Impacts and/or provide resources and guidance regarding Broader Impacts
  • Facilitation of external subject matter reviews and proposal preparation services with external consultants

REMOTE WORK ELIGIBILITY:

This position provides vital support to campus customers and requires the successful candidate be available to work on campus.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: Bachelor's degree

Experience: 5 years experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified

Required licensure, certification, registration or other requirements: None

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Strong organizational and multitasking skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with an ability to communicate effectively with a wide variety of audiences and in a variety of formats
  • MS or PhD in a STEM, business, or related field
  • 5+ years of experience with grants, program management, or business management
  • Experience writing scientific publications, grant proposals, and securing funding
  • Experience with pre-award research proposal development and submissions, notice of award, and post-award administration
  • Experience with database management
  • Experience with personnel or team management
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Ability to work under pressure and tight deadlines
  • Understanding of interdisciplinary research
