Located in our Houston office, the successful applicant for this role will be a Technical leader of small to medium projects (up to $500k budget, $10M in value) requiring substantial data science expertise, collaborating with business stakeholders, business and technical SMEs. You will be responsible for fit-for-purpose data science methodology of owned projects and able to review projects delivered by other teams or third-party partners. You will also operate as an independent data science technical SME, overseeing technical integrity and quality of deliverables by junior team members.
Key responsibilities include:
Partner with the business to identify opportunities to apply data science techniques to deliver value across the value chain
Collaborate with domain experts to review datasets, similar problems, and technical material to understand and define problem
Develop problem in data science terms, appreciating and investigating assumptions underlying analysis, and assessing requirements and technical feasibility of project
Handle, clean and interpret data sets, assessing data relevance and integrity and conforming to ethical and security standards
Evaluate and apply data science concepts and techniques (e.g. predictive modelling, statistical inference) to problems in oil and gas exploration and production domains
Collaborate with SMEs on analysis and modelling processes to solve challenging and high-impact problems in oil and gas exploration and production domains
Determine and communicate the limitations of analysis and modelling methods and their effects on the conclusions
Communicate findings of statistical or technical analysis through reports, presentations and translate results back into business language
Communicate arguments/issues to others clearly and accurately, in appropriate written and verbal form, to address specific questions and deliver value
Manage successful implementation of solutions, ensuring training and knowledge transfer to stakeholders
Manage data-driven project from end-to-end (i.e. problem identification to delivery)
Develop and improve data science processes and best practices within Data Science team to solve business problems
To be successful in this role, you will be an enthusiastic data science practitioner, passionate about building and improving internet-scale products informed by data. You will possess:
Degree having a strong mathematical core body of knowledge and Demonstrated expert experience in programming languages for data analysis (e.g. Python, R, Bash, SQL)
5+ years extensive practical work experience in data science
Experience across the full end-to-end process of data science delivery
Experience with interacting with business stakeholders
Experience with software engineering best practices (e.g. CI/CD, code repository, reproducible research, etc.)
Experience in oil and gas industry and/or the resources sector
Strong interpersonal and influencing skills
Professional, organised approach clearly demonstrated in use of planning and documentation
Ability to collaborate with subject matter experts across the oil and gas value chain
Ability to rapidly learn and evaluate technical information to synthesise meaningful conclusions and recommendations
