Research Associate II

Location: South San Francisco

We run one of the largest genome centers in the country and with that comes the necessity to maintain the quality of our testing. This research associate role is part of our Translational Development team and is responsible for developing and transferring technologies and product upgrades from R&D to our CLIA laboratory. The role requires a wide breadth of knowledge in wet and dry bench skills and an eagerness to collaborate across multiple disciplines at Myriad Women's Health.

What you'll do:

  • Method Research: invent assay methodologies that will enable expansion into new target markets
  • Assay Development: develop new assay chemistries with the goal of minimizing cost and turnaround time while maintaining accuracy
  • Sequencing Protocol Design: design panels for the latest sequence capture methods and optimize protocols for targeted clinical sequencing assays
  • Conduct and/or support research experiments under the supervision of Sr. Director.
  • Conduct lab experiments/research to support and/or advance products, services and technology from initial feasibility through final protocol optimization, application testing and stability studies
  • Method development and preparing SOPs as needed
  • Data analysis including excel, tableau, flow cytometry and image analysis
  • Provide project status reports
  • Review literature and apply advanced knowledge

Qualifications

  • BA/BS or MS in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry (or similar field) with 4+ years of full-time experience in Industry working in a laboratory utilizing molecular biology techniques or 6+ years of experience in academic Research in a relevant field.
  • Previous experience working with minimal supervision is a plus.
  • Able to accurately document your work and effectively communicate progress in written and verbal form.
  • Experience must include performing experiments in relevant areas such as Next or Third Generation Sequencing, DNA/RNA library preparation, RNA handling, data analysis and image analysis.
  • Ability to pipette accurately is required.
  • Ability to make experimental observations with a great attention to detail.
  • Ability to handle and make basic dilution calculations is required.
  • Knowledge of fluorescence and experience with a fluorometer is preferred.
  • Knowledge and experience with nucleic acids QC instruments is a plus (e.g., BioAnalyzer/TapeStation/LabChip).
  • Knowledge and experience with automated liquid handling platforms and software is a plus (e.g., Tecan, Biomek, Hamilton, Bravo).
  • Demonstrated ability to plan, execute, analyze and document research experiments
  • Proficient in the use and maintenance of instrumentation for chemical and spectroscopic analysis, such as fluorescence spectroscopy, fluorescence microscopy, UV-VIS, etc.
  • Organized, flexible, and able to multitask in an environment with aggressive timelines.
  • You are quantitative-minded and know your way around a computer. Actual programming experience and/or training in statistics is desirable.

Physical & Lifting Requirements

  • Lifting Requirements - medium work or exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, 20 pound of force frequently, and 10 pounds of force consistently.
  • Physical Requirements - stationary positioning, moving, operating, ascending/descending, communicating, observing, reaching and repetitive motion.
  • Use of equipment and tools necessary to perform essential job functions.
  • Hazards and Atmospheric Conditions - exposure to fumes, dust, extreme temperatures, wet and/or humid, noise, vibration, mists or gases, mechanical hazards, chemical hazards, electrical hazards and radiant energy hazards. OSHA Category I - duties performed routinely requires exposure to blood, body fluid and tissue.
