POSITION SUMMARY: Under the supervision of the Supervisor, the Grain Etch Operator etches castings, dips castings into caustic baths, fills and assists in the cleaning of caustic units, and performs miscellaneous tasks.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESinclude the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Using a hoist, immerses castings, revert metal or other materials into a series of acid and water baths, adhering to specified procedures, temperatures and time cycles;
  • Removes castings from holders at completion of process and sets aside for removal;
  • Regularly uses air pressure and water to rinse castings;
  • Operates controls to regulate temperature of various baths and to adjust electric current used in electrolytic process;
  • Loads castings into container and operates hoist to convey container into caustic bath adhering to procedure, temperatures and time cycle;
  • Removes container from caustic bath and immerses into water rinse for proper length of time;
  • Rinses castings using water pressure;
  • Fills caustic bath with caustic soda or other ingredients and helps in cleaning the baths when necessary;
  • Stamps identification on castings, maintains strength of solutions, marks routing cards, reports faulty products and processes to the supervisor;
  • Keeps work area clean and orderly;
  • Follows safety practices and policies.

Successful Candidates will:

  • Have a high school diploma or GED
  • Have the ability to read and understand complex procedures
  • Must be willing to work 12-hour shift (Sun/Mon/Tues or Wed/Thurs/Fri and every other Saturday) from 6 am to 6 pm or 6pm to 6am
  • Must have regular attendance
  • Pass a hair-follicle drug test and background check
