Position Summary

DEFINITION:

Under supervision of Dean, Student Services plans, organizes, coordinates, facilitates, and oversees a wide range of activities in support of the Noncredit Student Success and Support Program; while valuing and promoting the mission and vision of the college.

CLASS CHARACTERISTICS:

The incumbent, under minimal supervision, is responsible for coordinating, planning, organizing and carrying out the college's Noncredit Student Success and Support Program mission. This position is required to interaction with students, faculty, administration, and staff as well as other educational and community-based organizations and the general public requiring sound judgement and effective communication.

Essential Functions and Qualifications

  1. Coordinates, develops, and implements plans to increase awareness of the Noncredit Student Success and Support Program (NC3SP) among students, faculty, administration, staff, and the community utilizing print, electronic, broadcast and social media.
  2. Plans, coordinates, organizes NC3SPactivities and outreach including on and off campus events, certificate information sessions, workshops, campus tours, and conferences.
  3. Develops and explains Noncredit Student Success and Support Program office procedures to other staff, students, and the public.
  4. Assists noncredit students with completing college forms for admission, transfer from noncredit to credit, and other student services.
  5. Identifies and develops strategies to encourage and academically support at-risk students.
  6. Coordinates recruitment and hiring of peer advisors as well as provides orientation, training, and direction.
  7. Performs routine clerical work and oversees the daily operations of the office.
  8. Provides guidance to students on noncredit certificate requirements and directs them to resources to assist them in reaching educational goals.
  9. Coordinates follow-up with students to ensure fulfillment of the certificate requirements in a timely manner.
  10. Plans, develops, and produces printed materials, including flyers, brochures, and other products to publicize and promote the Noncredit Student Success and Support Program.
  11. Acts as the liaison to on and off campus resources and community organizations to provide support services to ensure student success.
  12. Maintains master calendar of Noncredit Student Success and Support Program activities and integrates it to the campus wide outreach calendar.
  13. Works with student services departments and programs to provide options, referrals, and alternative solutions for students who are facing obstacles and challenges; collaborates with other district departments to provide wrap-around services for students.
  14. Oversees and maintains department storage locations and the noncredit computer lending program.
  15. Researches and stays current on board policies, state and federal laws pertaining to the program.
  16. Collaboratively maintains the budget for peer advisors and temporary staff, identifies and generates a list of department needs such office supplies, equipment, technology, and outreach materials.
  17. Gathers information and assists in the preparation of grant proposals and reports.
  18. Performs related functions as required.

Knowledge of:

  • Socioeconomic conditions of area residents;
  • Fundamentals of interviewing;
  • Allan Hancock College community resources and services;
  • Fundamentals of human behavior and the psychosocial factors underlying human behavior;
  • Basic statistics, research methods, and reporting;
  • Understand processes, procedures, and requirements of AHC matriculation process;

Demonstrates ability to:

  • Learn, understand, interpret, and apply laws, regulations, policies, guidelines and procedures;
  • Plan, organize, and conduct group functions and meetings;
  • Investigate and research problems, devise solutions and present recommendations;
  • Present oral and written reports in a clear and concise manner;
  • Understand and carry out oral and written directions;
  • Create and maintain spreadsheets;
  • Use appropriate software programs;
  • Read, write, speak and understand Spanish and English is required.
Working Conditions:
  • Duties are primarily performed in an office environment;
  • The incumbent will experience interruptions while performing normal duties during the regular workday;
  • This person will have high frequency of contact in person, by email, or on the telephone with staff, students, the general public, social service agencies and other educational institutions.
Physical Demands:
  • Typically may stand or sit for extended periods of time.
  • Operates a computer.
  • Communicates over the telephone, via email, and in person.
  • Regularly lifts, carries and/or moves objects weighing up to 10 pounds.
Special Qualification:
A sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds of students and staff and students with varying personal challenges or disabilities.
Minimum Qualifications

Education and Experience:

Bachelor's degree in Sociology, Psychology, Education, Communication Studies, or related field, OR any equivalent combination of training and experience. Qualifying experience performing duties closely related to this position may be substituted for the required education on the basis of two years of experience for one year of education.

Bilingual Spanish/English oral and written communication skills are required.

Additional Information

The desired start date is July 2024. This is a full-time 12-month classified position. This position is contingent on continued funding.

Work Schedule:

  • Monday - Santa Ynez Valley Center - 11:00 a.m. - 7:30 p.m.
  • Tuesday - Lompoc Valley Center - 9:30 a.m. - 6:00 p.m.
  • Wednesday and Thursday - Santa Maria Campus - 11:00 a.m. - 7:30 p.m.
  • Friday - Santa Maria Campus - 11:00 a.m. - 7:00 p.m.

Bargaining unit employees whose regular work schedule requires work after 6:00 p.m. and before 6:00 a.m. for two (2) or more days per week shall receive a shift differential according to the following schedule:

9.3.2 Two-and-one-half percent (2.5%) above their regular rate of pay for all hours worked provided the shift includes two (2) hours between 6:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m.
