Overview

Orrick currently has an excellent opportunity for a part-time Finance Project Manager. This position could be based in any of our U.S. offices (Austin; Chicago; Boston; Houston; Los Angeles; New York; Menlo Park; Orange County; Portland; Sacramento; San Francisco; Santa Monica; Seattle; Washington DC; or Wheeling, WV) and consideration given for 100% remote US locations.

Working with other members of the Finance Business Systems and FP&A teams, the Finance Project Manager will plan, execute, and finalize projects according to strict deadlines and within budget. This includes acquiring resources and coordinating the efforts of team members and third-party contractors or consultants to deliver projects accurately and timely. The Finance Project Manager will also define project objectives, assist with defining scope, prepare and maintain project plans, and oversee quality control throughout the life cycle of each project. The PM will manage implementations, migrations, and conversions of production software, including preliminary planning, testing, and end-user training. Further responsibilities include assisting with maintenance and support of finance business software applications, including accounting, time and billing, financial systems and other software systems as required. Creates procedures and develops documentation for new and existing systems.

Responsibilities
    Project manages migrations, conversions and upgrades of finance systems under the direction of the Director of Finance & Reporting Systems and Managing Director of Finance; provides post-implementation support
  • Acts as a PM representative of finance for projects managed by other departments such as IT, HR, etc.
  • Project manages ancillary or custom application implementations and/or upgrades
  • Provides general support and technical assistance of new and existing systems; serves as the liaison between technical and non-technical managers to assure smooth implementations; facilitates group meetings
  • Provides general software user support for business and practice support systems
  • Provides solutions for business problems and responds to user service requests as necessary
  • Assists in firmwide conversions and other technical projects as required
  • Assists in maintaining and auditing firmwide database to assure data accuracy
  • Documentation
  • Direct and manage development of short-term cross-functional projects from beginning to end, with some exposure to complex projects
  • Define project scope, goals and deliverables that support business goals in collaboration with senior management and stakeholders
  • Develop project plans and associated communications documents
  • Effectively communicate project expectations to team members and stakeholders in a timely and clear fashion
  • Liaise with project stakeholders on an ongoing basis using recommended stakeholder engagement tools
  • Working with resource managers, estimate the resources and participants needed to achieve project goals
  • Set and continually manage project expectations with team members and other stakeholders
  • Delegate routine tasks and responsibilities to appropriate personnel
  • Identify project management issues and conflicts, and research solutions using appropriate resources
  • Identify and manage project dependencies
  • Plan, schedule, and track project timelines and milestones using appropriate tools, templates and processes provided
  • Develop and deliver progress reports, proposals, requirements documentation, and presentations
  • Identify changes in project scope or backlog, identify potential crises, and assist in devising contingency plans
  • Define project success criteria and disseminate them to involved parties throughout project life cycle
  • Motivate project team members and contractors and review their completed work for adherence to deadlines
  • Conduct project lessons learned or retrospectives and create a recommendations report to identify successful and unsuccessful project elements
  • Develop business cases that highlight the costs and benefits of proposed projects
  • Facilitate and/or conduct feasibility studies and make recommendations to senior management and stakeholders
  • Assist in training new staff members in processes and procedures
  • Provide guidance to other project team members and users
  • Participate in the development of effective project management processes and procedures
  • Assist Reports, Business Systems Applications and FP&A with various general responsibilities
  • Other related duties as required
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting subsidized by experience in the areas of Computer Science, Information Systems or Business Administration, or similar or equivalent work experience, preferred
  • 2+ years of demonstrated project management preferred
  • 3-5 years of relevant experience in professional services environment
  • Prior law firm experience strongly desired
  • Experience with accounting systems in a client service-oriented environment
  • Strong communication and organization skills required
  • Initiative in working with users, internal teams and third parties required
  • Project management and relational database experience strongly preferred
  • Basic SQL skills strongly desired
  • Power BI report development and PowerApps experience a plus.

Compensation and Benefits

The expected salary range for this position is:

  • California Major Markets* $66,000 - $88,500
  • New York City $69,750 - 88,500
  • National $62,250 - $81,000

* California Major Markets includes San Francisco, Silicon Valley, Los Angeles, Orange County, Santa Monica. All other California locations fall within National range.

Orrick is committed to providing a comprehensive, competitive, and thoughtful total compensation package to our attorneys and staff, wherever they work. This compensation and benefits information is based on the Orrick's estimate as of the date of publication and may be modified in the future. The level of pay within the range will depend on a variety of job-related factors that may include, but not limited to, qualifications, relevant experience or education, particular skills or expertise, geography. Other compensation may include an annual discretionary merit bonus, which would be determined by Firm and individual performance.
