Job Summary

Please note: This position requires the candidate to reside within CA to facilitate in State travel for occasional onsite program visits and meetings.
This is 1 year, full-term contract that comes with full benefits (medical, vision, and dental) in addition to retirement & pension plans.


The Vaccine Preventable Disease Consultant/Infection Prevention CRD III will serve as the Immunization Branch's health consultant and liaison with local, state and federal government agencies, public and private agencies/organizations, and individuals and groups involved in immunization program activities. As the liaison, the incumbent renders immunization technical assistance and consultation in the primary areas of program operations, program policies, and prevention and control of the vaccine-preventable diseases. The incumbent will also assist in planning, preparing and designing materials/curricula for use in vaccine preventable disease programs and speaking presentations.

Department Description

The Institute for Global Health (IGH) was established in 1999 by the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) and the University of California, Berkeley (UCB). Through a contract with the California Department of Public Health, the Institute for Global Health invites qualified individuals to apply for a position with the Field Services and Program Coordination Section of the Immunization Branch.

The Immunization Branch's mission is to decrease the occurrence and spread of vaccine preventable disease in California by improving immunization rates amongst children and adolescents. The Immunization Branch administers the Vaccine for Children Program at the state level and partners with medical providers throughout California to enhance their capacity and ability to provide routine immunizations to eligible children with low or no out-of-pocket costs.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in health related field and / or equivalent experience / training
  • 3+ years directly relevant experience
  • Thorough knowledge of the clinical and operational issues in vaccine preventable disease control, including policies, regulatory requirements, surveillance and investigation methodologies, data collection, epidemiology, and microbiology
  • Thorough knowledge of data management, analysis, research, reporting, and documentation methods used in vaccine preventable disease control, with the ability to contribute to studies, investigations, reports, presentations, and the development of new infection control protocols and policies
  • Detail oriented, with proven organizational skills and the ability to effectively manage time, prioritize tasks, and see projects through to completion on schedule
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to provide education, training, and resources, and to develop positive working relationships with patients, families, and internal and external partners.
  • Strong ability to effectively convey complex clinical, technical, and educational information both verbally and in writing, and to collaborate productively in a team environment with all levels of internal and external personnel
  • Proven ability to work with management and staff across departments and to serve as an information resource, providing advice and recommendations on complex issues of functionality, , efficiency, and program development
  • Strong ability to train others in the principles and practices of the VFC program
  • Intermediate level proficiency with Microsoft software including PowerPoint, Word, Excel, and Teams

Preferred Qualifications

  • CA Registered Nurse
  • Immunization Registry/CAIR Information System knowledge
  • Three years of professional administrative experience requiring definition and implementation of operational program policy in the direction of a health facility program involving patient care or in a public health activity directly related to health facility management or operations
  • myCAvax system knowledge
