This position will be part of the Quinnesec Mill's Environmental team responsible for implementing and supporting all applicable environmental programs to ensure compliance with local, state, and federal environmental laws, regulations, permit requirements, and corporate policies. The initial focus of this position will be in the areas of solid and hazardous waste, beneficial reuse, groundwater monitoring, and underground/above storage tanks, with future opportunities in other environmental programs (e.g., air, wastewater, sustainability).


Required Skills

Key Accountabilities:

  • Be safe from the start. Enforce adherence to safe work practices, good housekeeping, provide follow-up and correction of unsafe acts and conditions, and actively participate in safety programs and meetings.
  • Manage and promote beneficial reuse programs including land application.
  • Work with all levels of mill operations. Provide technical support for environmental performance, regulatory compliance, process troubleshooting, and continuous improvement.
  • Manage and maintain sampling and testing, data, calculations, recordkeeping, and reporting activities associated with program areas of responsibility.
  • Interact with contractors, farming community, consultants, in-house lab analysts, and regulatory agencies to coordinate program activities.
  • Oversee programs to ensure proper QA/QC protocols are observed and reporting complies with state and federal requirements.

Required Experience

Minimum Required Experience and Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in environmental engineering/science, chemical engineering, paper science engineering or other related field.
  • Possess strong verbal, written, interpersonal, and analytical skills.
  • Ability to interact with a wide variety of people including regulators, engineers, consultants, contractors, managers, and the public.
  • Proficient computer skills in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.

Preferred Skills:

  • 3+ years' environmental experience, preferably in pulp and paper making, power, or general industry.
  • Demonstrated leadership qualities and self-motivated.
  • Demonstrated ability to organize and motivate teams, drive change, and interact cross-functionally.
  • Experience conducting training.
  • Willingness to obtain applicable licenses and certifications.
  • Experience with understanding and implementing regulatory requirements.
  • A commitment to safety and environmental stewardship as demonstrated by performance, action, and involvement.
