About Us:
The Center for Youth & Family Investment (CYFI) is a District of Columbia 501(c) 3 nonprofit organization dedicated to providing and facilitating extended learning opportunities, supplemental educational services, and after-school programs to public and charter school students. CYFI promotes a holistic approach to its services – a belief that the domains of our children lives are interconnected, and that the needs of the “whole” child must be supported as we assist them in acquiring the skills, experience, and attitudes they need to be successful, contributing citizens.
Currently, CYFI operates its Friendship Cares Before- and After-Care Program at the Friendship Public Charter Schools Chamberlain, Southeast, Tech Prep, and Woodridge Elementary Campuses.
Position Summary:
CYFI is seeking Group Leaders to assist in the Friendship CARES Before- and After-Care Program, serving children from Pre-K through grade 6. Some of the duties include: snack distribution, homework assistance, assisting with set-up and clean-up, and facilitation of project-based activities. Successful candidates must also have the ability to work effectively with other staff and faculty from Friendship Public Charter School. This part-time position (3 hours/day, Mon-Fri, flexible schedule) is based at the school site and reports directly to the After-Care Coordinator.
Responsibilities include:
• Homework assistance
• Assists with recreational/artistic projects and activities.
• Actively engages in activities with the children.
• Meets with elementary teachers weekly.
• Facilitates project-based activities (focused in areas of math, science, and technology)
• Knowledgeable of Friendship content standards.
• Maintains confidentiality of sensitive information.
• Performs other duties as assigned with approval of lead teacher or After-Care Coordinator.
• Assists in housekeeping activities as needed.
Minimum Requirements:
Knowledge
• Knowledge of child development and early childhood education.
Skills/Characteristics
• Enthusiasm for working with children.

• Proven ability to work in a collaborative team environment and enforce rules consistently.

Education and Experience:
• High school diploma or General Education Development Certificate (GED);
• 60 or more credit hours from an accredited college or university or;
• A CDA (Child Development Associate) Credential with at least one year of experience working in a regulated child care environment,
• Minimum one-year teaching experience preferred.
Preferred: Teaching credential, Child Care Certificate or Bachelor’s degree; Familiarity with District of Columbia Day Care Licensing Rules.
Required Certificates, Licenses, and Registrations: Must pass Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) criminal background check and fingerprinting, as well as Mandatory Drug and Alcohol Test done within 30 days of hire. First Aid and CPR certification is required within 90 days of hire.
