Job Description

The Atlantic seeks a media savvy Senior LAMP developer to develop solutions for a wide variety of Web-based products including content management solutions, mobile applications, multimedia, content distribution, and social networking features. The ideal candidate will be a strong team player, product thinker, and customer advocate with experience building elegant and intuitive web-based applications. This candidate will have a strong understanding of business goals and customer needs and be able to consider the impact of design and architecture tradeoffs on user experience, internal support, and technical operations. He/she will have proven experience with all aspects of the software development lifecycle, process improvement, and operational excellence. This position will report to the Vice President of Digital Strategy & Operations.

Major Responsibilities Include:

• Working with business, editorial and marketing groups to define a technical strategy that supports the product vision of a fast growing online media company
• Evaluating an existing infrastructure and defining a new architecture that will include the selection of a content management system
• Defining and enforcing a development process that includes technical analysis, quality assurance and release management

Qualifications of Ideal Candidate:

• 5+ years LAMP experience with experience with object oriented programming concepts and application design
• Ability to define and communicate a technical vision, possessing excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Experience in a Web publishing environment working with both commercial and open source content management systems (Drupal, Joomla, etc) and blogging systems (Movable Type, Word Press). Experience with CoMa is nice to have.
• Detailed knowledge of web application development and experience using PHP and relational databases (PostgreSQL and MySQL)
• Experience with APIs (Facebook, Twitter, etc.)
• Experience with web development frameworks including Zend, Django, etc.
• Experience developing for cross-browser compatibility with XHTML, CSS, AJAX, JQuery and Javascript
• User interaction design experience
• Extensive experience with Linux operating system, shell scripting, and performance benchmarking / tuning
• Strong project planning and release management experience
• Technical problem-solving skills, ability to succeed in a fast-moving high-demand environment, and a willingness to roll up your sleeves when necessary.
